INGREDIENTS

Onion: I used a white cooking onion, but you can also use a sweet onion, such as a Vidalia. Should you be in a hurry, you can omit the onions altogether or replace them with shallots.

Oil: You do need to use some sort of oil in order to cook the peppers and onions properly. For this recipe, I used olive oil, but you can use vegetable oil, EVOO, or even corn oil.

Jalapeno/ Ball peppers: You can use orange or yellow peppers, but I prefer to use a combination of green and red peppers. You can also add jalapeno for good taste.

Italian Seasoning: For a simple herb mixture, I like to use dried Italian seasoning, but you can also use thyme, basil, and oregano. Alternatively, you could just use salt and pepper to season the vegetables.

HOW TO COOK ITALIAN SAUSAGE IN AIR FRYER?

Set the air fryer’s temperature to 400°F.

Combine the onions and peppers in a big bowl with the olive oil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper.

After it’s heated, add the onions and peppers to the air fry basket and arrange the raw sausages on top.

At 400 degrees Fahrenheit, air fry Italian sausage, peppers, and onions for 15 minutes, turning the sausages every 5 minutes.

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • For a dish as colorful as it is tasty, try using a combination of bell peppers (red, yellow, and green), like in my recipe for air-fried bell peppers.
  • You’re not cooking a potato, so avoid making holes in the sausage! While air-frying, poking holes in the sausage as instructed by many recipes only allows the juices to leak out. What makes you want to do that? Your air fryer’s bottom will get messy, and your sausage will get dry.
  • To ensure even browning and optimal air circulation, allow space between the sausages.
  • A surplus of moisture can prevent crisping. Before air-frying, use paper towels to absorb any remaining moisture from the surface.
  • Depending on the model of your air fryer and the thickness of the sausage, cooking times may vary. For safety and juiciness, make sure the interior temperature reaches 160°F using an instant-read thermometer.
  • Before air-frying, season your sausages with your preferred herbs and spices. Garlic powder, oregano, cumin, and paprika are all excellent choices.

CONCLUSION

I have explained the  simplest, fastest, and most hands-off way to make perfectly juicy, golden brown Italian sausages in air  fryer.

You won’t want to make the air-fried sausage any other way again, whether it’s served raw, on a bun, over spaghetti, or as part of a traditional sausage and peppers dish!

For up to three to four days, keep any leftover sausage refrigerated in an airtight container. Serve after reheating in the air fryer!

Cooked sausages can be frozen for up to two or three months if they are allowed to cool completely before being transferred to a freezer-safe container or bag. You can reheat them straight from frozen in the air fryer and serve them however you like, so there’s no need to thaw them in the refrigerator!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1.How long do you cook sausages in the air fryer?

Using a sharp knife, pierce the sausages several times throughout (this is optional, but will help release more fat). Put the sausages in the basket of an air fryer in a single layer.

After the sausages are thoroughly cooked, turn them every five minutes while cooking them at 180 degrees Celsius in the air fryer.

Q2.What temperature should Italian sausage be cooked at?

Cooking traditional Italian sausage to at least 160 to 165 degrees Fahrenheit is the golden rule.

Q3.Do sausages taste good in air fryer?

Sausages made from chicken are delicious and equally simple to cook in the air fryer as sausages made from pork, but with a milder flavor. To ensure that they cook at the same time, follow the instructions as they usually differ slightly.

Q4.Is air frying sausages healthy?

Using an air fryer instead of a deep fryer could be useful if you frequently eat deep-fried food. Cooking food in an air fryer is unlikely to make it healthier if you’re cooking something like ready-made oven chips, bacon, sausages, or breaded chicken, which you wouldn’t normally cook with fat.
